OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS | Rivers Connect at Sea
Tbilisi Photo Festival announces an open call for the online residency program "Rivers Connect at Sea" for artists based in Georgia.
While the world is still awakening from the aftermath of the pandemic, conflicts are rising in different parts of it, affecting life all around the earth, deepening existing crises and creating new ones. In the overload of information, scarce artistic responses are blossoming like flowers, offering the world an understanding of the contemporary world beyond the news headlines.
In times like these, art becomes an even more important tool for change, and understanding how to use it to navigate between the topics and audiences is vital.
‘Rivers connect at Sea’ is a 4-month-long online residency and mentorship program for Georgian and Abkhaz artists that will focus on ways of curating culture in the times of crises. Together we will try to answer questions like: what ecologies of art production are suitable for our current relative contexts? How can we engage new audiences and find alternative ways of understanding culture? What can we learn from other fragile environments about resourceful artmaking and ways of being together? What role can art play in the times of scarcity and division?
Online residency will take place during June - September 2024. Part of the residency is:
- A 4-month working process with an international expert who will mentor each selected artists in creating the project.
- Series of online lectures by invited international artists and curators
- Grant for creation of the project
- Group gathering of residency participants and mentors in Istanbul in July 2024
- Presentation of projects created within the residence.
To apply for the residency, please send the following documents in Georgian:
