OPEN CALL: Art Residency Accompanied by a Long-term Mentorship Program & Production Grant for Kutaisi-based art & culture practitioners.
Tbilisi Photo Festival and Western Development Center with the support of the EU-funded EU4Culture project, within the framework of the winning project in the competition of cultural and cross-innovation projects - “Vibrant Art Scene for Kutaisi’s Reimagined Cultural Identity”, launch an open call inviting Kutaisi-based emerging visual artists, curators, writers, etc. To apply to an art residency accompanied by a long-term mentorship program & production grant.
The 8 selected participants from Kutaisi will be united in a multidisciplinary team and through a learning-by-doing approach will work on the production of a joint artistic project - a multimedia exhibition and accompanying publication - exhibition zine. The concept of the group exhibition will tackle the theme of rethinking Kutaisi’s cultural heritage.
Selected participants will receive a production grant of 300 EUR (tax free) to support them in the development of their original artwork.
Description
In the frame of XXX Tbilisi Photo Festival and Western Development Center offer an art residency program for 8 emerging Kutaisi-based art & culture practitioners. The Residency will include a 4-month-long (March - July 2024) mentorship program, a production grant for 300 EUR, and a series of educational opportunities by established national art experts. In the frame of the Art Residency, each grantee will benefit from a 4-month individual and group mentoring sessions provided by the established Georgian curator Ana Gabelaia.
Throughout physical meetings in Kutaisi and online consultations, taking place once a month, the mentor of the program will assist grantees in the development of their artistic projects, helping them to define an original visual language and develop or finalize their project. By the end of the tutoring period, the multidisciplinary team will develop joint artistic projects - the final exhibition tackling the theme of rethinking Kutaisi’s cultural heritage and accompanying publication.

(2) Documentation of past/current project/work, - portfolio, if any. Optionally, send us an idea for a new piece that you would like to work on during the residency.
(3) Cover letter: Briefly tell us why you are interested in participating in this project? You can send text as well as audio or video.
